The 16th World Puzzle Championship which took place October 6–11, 2007
in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has brought to US Puzzle Team its 10th team
title! The second place went to Japan and the third - to Belgium.
Teams from 23 countries participated in the Championship which for the
first time had been hosted by South America. From almost a hundred
individual contestants ten of them have made it to the traditional
Play-Off round. As a result of the Play-Off Pal Madarassy from Hungary
became this year Champion. Second was Thomas Snyder (USA) and third
Ulrich Voigt (Germany).
The annual WPF General Assembly had been held in conjunction with WPC.
At the Assembly it was decided that the World Sudoku Championship 2009
(WSC 2009) would take place in Slovakia. The World Puzzle Championship
2009 (WPC 2009) is yet to be announced at the beginning of 2008.
The 17th World Puzzle Championship will be held in Vilnius, Lithuania
(Fall, 2008).
